Zhombe man sentenced to 20 years for murder

A 23-year-old man from Zhombe has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder, after he stabbed a fellow patron at a local bar.
Tichaona Sibanda appeared at the Gweru High Court Circuit for the murder of 21-year-old Lloyd Zhakata.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the incident occurred on 30 December 2024, at Ruzviya Bar in Zibhawabhawa Business Centre.
“On the night of the 30th of December 2024, the now deceased was at Ruzviya Bar in Zibhawabhawa Business Centre, Zhombe, watching a game of snooker with a friend when the offender unexpectedly stabbed him once on the chest with a homemade knife.
“The offender fled the scene with his brother. The severely wounded Zhakata then tried to walk and collapsed about 130 meters away, where he died and was found in a pool of blood near a local homestead,” reads the statement.
Police investigations led to the offender’s arrest in Kadoma on 5 January 2025. The murder weapon a homemade knife with an 11.5cm blade was recovered and presented as an exhibit in court.
