SENSEI MUGO: MONYA H-TOWN LOVED BEST
Mathew Masinge
IT appears Sensei Mugo Muhambi was the best loved and most respected MONYA in Harare.
There has been an outpouring of love since the decorated karateka and leading fitness trainer, who died in a car crash in Harare on Saturday morning.
He was the personal trainer of many of the country’s celebrities, who are now mourning his untimely death.
Many musclemen in the capital have created a reputation of being mean characters who use more of their muscles than their brains.
Some of them have had a brush with the law for their savage attacks which left many members of the public badly injured, especially in night clubs.
But, it appears, Sensei Mugo was different.
Maybe, all the training he received in karate, a sport which places a lot of emphasis on discipline, helped shape him into a very disciplined person.
He was a fourth dan black belt holder.
Many are describing him as a professional man who left a huge impression among them.
Sensei Mugo was killed on the spot in a head-on collision along Borrowdale Road on Saturday when his Honda Fit collided with a Toyota GD6.
He was 49.
Mourners are gathered at his St Martins home along Seke Road in Harare.
A funeral service was conducted at Nyaradzo along Herbert Chitepo Avenue in Harare yesterday.
Sensei Mugo was part of Profitness Health Club and was behind the makeovers of a number of celebrities, socialites, businesspeople and musicians across the country.
He also provided security services at night clubs, for VIPs, promoters and musicians.
Sensei Mugo was a seven-time Zimbabwe Karate champion and spent 34 years in the trenches of karate and kickboxing.
His family has described him as a devoted father.
“We remember Sensei Mugo Muhambi, a devoted father, compassionate leader and loving husband.
“He was always there with his patience and guidance, making everyone feel valued. Though he has passed, his spirit lives on in those he touched.
“Let’s honour him by embracing his passion for learning, kindness and community,” reads a statement from the family.
In a statement, Profitness Health Club said Sensei Mugo’s impact will continue through the lives he touched.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of Sensei Mugo.
“He will be profoundly missed but his legacy and the impact he made will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
“Sensei was deeply respected, admired and his memory will be honoured and cherished always.
“Rest in Peace Sensei.”
Fellow fitness enthusiast, Miss Chindiya said:
