Bruno Fernandes calls for Man Utd flops to step up – in order to stop him winning next year’s Player of the Season award
BRUNO FERNANDES wants some of his Manchester United teammates to take the limelight off him.
The Portuguese skipper, 30, has been the Red Devils’ player of the year by a mile in United’s disappointing Premier League campaign.
Fernandes has been a bright spark both domestically and in Europe despite the Red Devils’ horror year.
The 30-year-old has 17 goals across all competitions along with 14 assists.
And he equalled Cristiano Ronaldo by winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award for a fourth time.
Ahead of a summer rebuild at Old Trafford, the skipper has urged his teammate to step up in 2024/25.
And Fernandes warned he doesn’t want to be even in the running for next year’s gong.
Bruno said: “The players were joking about who is going to win the award for player of the season.
“But I said, ‘I hope next year, I’m not even one of the names mentioned’.
“If they start scoring goals, running back and tackling, doing assists, they’ll have the attention.

“As soon as I can get the best out of them, my team will be much better.”
Fernandes will likely be key if United are to beat Tottenham in Wednesday’s Europa League final.
Ruben Amorim’s men have been a different beast in European competition.
And club legend Roy Keane believes Fernandes could be the X-factor in Bilbao.
Keane told Sky Sports: “You still have to fancy United.

“There’s not much between them [in the league] but come the crunch, come the final, United’s history in finals, them winning cups the last few years, you’d like to think they would have a bit more knowledge around the game than Spurs.
“That might edge it for them, and I think Bruno can produce that bit of magic.”
