Marin unemployment rate at 3.7%, state reports
For the third consecutive month, unemployment rates decreased across the North Bay, according to new state figures.
California’s month-over-month rate held steady at 5.3%, the Employment Development Department reported Friday. The state’s year-over-year jobless rate increased by 0.1%, compared to 0.3% nationally, the department said.
April’s unemployment rates within the North Bay were lowest in Marin County, at 3.7%. Napa County followed at 3.8%, while Sonoma County’s rate was 4%. Solano County’s jobless rate last month was 4.8%.
Marin County’s rate last month was the fourth lowest in the state, tied with Orange County. Mono County was 3.2%, followed by San Mateo County at 3.4% and San Francisco at 3.6%.
Mendocino County’s rate was 5.5% and Lake County’s rate was 6.8%, according to the department.
Statewide, the private education and health services sector showed job gains for the 39th consecutive month, while the biggest decline in jobs was in the professional and business services sector, according to the state agency.
In Marin, the 3.7% rate in April was down from a revised 3.8% in March. The rate in April 2024 was 3.5%.
The county added jobs in construction; professional and business services; private education and health services; leisure and hospitality; and government. There was no decrease in jobs in other sectors.
In Sonoma County, the 4% rate in April was down from a revised 4.2% in March. The rate in April 2024 was 3.7%.
