Market 32/Price Chopper partners with Freihofer's to support Alzheimer's Association
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Market 32/Price Chopper has partnered with Freihofer's Baking Company to raise money in support of the Alzheimer's Association. Funds will go towards disease detection and treatment efforts.
Throughout the months of May and June, the grocery store will donate 10 cents to the Alzheimer's Association with each purchase of specific Freihofer's products. Qualifying items will be marked with shelf tags in most stores.
"It’s estimated that 6.9 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s dementia," said Pam Cerrone, Market 32 and Price Chopper’s director of community relations. "Funding is vital for research and clinical trials that are key to developing better treatment, prevention, and outcomes. Our partnership with Freihofer’s allows our customers to join us in providing hope to those with Alzheimer’s and their loved ones."
According to the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's dementia is a degenerative brain disease that can lead to memory loss, emotional changes and, in later stages, hinder physical abilities like walking, sitting and swallowing. A majority of people with Alzheimer's are 65 years of age or older. There is currently no cure.
"The progress we’ve made in recent years around detection, diagnosis and treatment is undeniable, but we have much more to do,” said Beth Smith-Boivin, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern New York Chapter. “This partnership not only raises Alzheimer’s awareness but is a powerful reminder to those living with dementia and their caregivers that we are deeply committed to their well-being."
