Blake Lively's Lawyer Addresses Whether Taylor Swift Will Testify in Justin Baldoni Trial
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are scheduled to face off in court in March 2026, but will Taylor Swift take the stand? In his first interview about Lively’s case involving her It Ends With Us co-star and director, the actress’s lawyer addressed Swift’s role in the case.
The singer was named in Baldoni’s countersuit against Lively, in which he responded to her December lawsuit that accused him of committing sexual harassment and being involved in a smear campaign against her.
In April, sources told People, “Anyone that had any knowledge of this situation will be subpoenaed, no matter of their celebrity status.” However, Lively’s attorney, Mike Gottlieb, is setting the record straight.
Will Taylor Swift Testify in Blake Lively vs Justin Baldoni Trial?
Lively’s attorney said that he doesn’t think a federal court would “tolerate” Baldoni’s team trying to subpoena Swift in the case.
“It’s completely unclear what claims or defenses in the case any of these celebrities… have any relevance to at all,” Gottlieb said. Along with Swift, Lively and husband Ryan Reynolds’ friend Hugh Jackman was also named as someone who could receive a subpoena. Gottlieb insists that Swift and Jackman are irrelevant to the case.
“This is a case about what happened to Blake Lively when she raised claims of sexual harassment on the set,” he said. “It’s not a case about how songs were chosen for the movie. It’s not a case about fictional Marvel characters in Deadpool movies.”
“You have to ask the question, then, why are these people being subpoenaed?” Gottlieb continued. “Do they have any actual relevance to the case at hand? You can’t just go around subpoenaing people because they’re famous and you think it will generate a bunch of headlines. And the federal courts don’t tolerate that kind of behavior.”
What Is Swift’s Involvement in the Case?
Baldoni’s team has alleged that Lively and Reynolds used Swift to pressure the director into accepting their rewrite of It Ends With Us scenes, suggesting the couple attempted to control the project.
Lively referred to the pop star as one of her “dragons” in an alleged text exchange included in a January filing from Baldoni. In the filing, he also claimed he was “summoned” to a meeting with Reynolds and Swift in which, per the countersuit, the singer “began praising Lively’s script. Baldoni understood the subtext: he needed to comply with Lively’s direction for the script.”
In response to Gottlieb’s statements, Baldoni’s lawyer Brian Freedman pushed back. “Although obviously uncomfortable for the Lively parties, the truth is not a distraction. The truth has been clearly shown through unedited receipts, documents and real life footage. More to come,” Freedman said. “Blake was the one who brought her high-profile friends into this situation without concern for their own personal or public backlash. As the truth shows, she used her Dragons to manipulate Justin at every turn.”
This update comes amid reports of tensions between Swift and Lively, who have been friends since 2015. Though People reported on April 24 that Swift and Lively were working to “put it all behind them” after the singer was left feeling “hurt” by the lawsuit, sources have continued to speculate about a rift between the pair.
Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also added fuel to those rumors by unfollowing Reynolds. Neither Lively’s camp nor Swift’s has addressed the speculation.
