Police claim Sedriques Dumas found ‘hiding in a dog crate’ during arrest on home invasion, battery charges

UFC fighter Sedriques Dumas remains behind bars after he was arrested in April on a multitude of charges including home invasion, battery, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

On Tuesday, MMA Fighting obtained the police report from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department involving Dumas’ arrest with the situation ultimately stemming from a domestic violence situation involving the veteran fighter and the mother of his children.

Police claim they were called to a residence over a disturbance where a woman claimed Dumas — who is her ex-boyfriend with whom she shares a child — walked through an unlocked front door and then “threw the back door of the residence open in an aggressive manner” and “forcefully” took the phone she was holding out of her hand. The victim (whose name we are withholding for privacy) claimed she was talking to her current boyfriend when Dumas allegedly snatched the phone out of her hand and then he stormed back into the house.

The victim claims she followed him and told him to give the phone back to her while informing him that he was going to jail. Police state that the victim then told them that Dumas allegedly stated “if I’m going to jail then I’m going to get my rings back.”

Dumas allegedly forcefully tried to take a ring off the victim’s finger but was unable to get it off. The victim stated that Dumas then “threw her around the room” and into a large wooden vase before allegedly grabbing a $400 necklace off her neck before leaving the residence.

Dumas allegedly took the necklace and her phone before returning to his black BMW and driving away before returning a moment later and tossing her phone back into the front yard from his vehicle. The victim claims she then asked someone walking by to call 911 and later told police that Dumas had lived with her at the residence in the past but moved out this past December.

Police state that the victim was “crying and shaking” and she had “fresh scratches and bruises on her right leg and right arm.” The police report further states that the victim also had “several small fresh scratch marks on her fingers.”

While at the residence taking the report, police say the victim continued to get calls from a person she identified as Dumas as well as calls from his new girlfriend. The victim claims she also received a text from Dumas’ girlfriend stated “You OK, please don’t put him in jail.”

Police took photos of the victim’s injuries along with texts and calls from Dumas and new girlfriend along with a photo she provided to authorities that showed her wearing the necklace that the UFC veteran allegedly stole from her.

Police state that deputies later arrived at a residence where Dumas’ black BMW was parked and then made contact with his new girlfriend, who permitted them permission to search the building and backyard.

Dumas was allegedly located “hiding in a dog crate in a shed on the back of the property” where he detained by authorities.

A probable search was conducted on Dumas’ vehicle where police allegedly found “a large clear plastic bag full of marijuana” that weighed out to be approximately 51 grams and the deputy also claims he found a black Beretta handgun inside a UFC bag along with drugs “prescribed” to Dumas.

Police state they knew Dumas was a professional UFC fighter due to past encounters with him.

During the search of his vehicle, police claim that they found “several half burnt marijuana joints” along with a “broken piece of necklace” on the driver’s side floorboard.

Police say that Dumas was arrested but agreed to speak with them on the scene where he claimed he had permission to go to the residence where the victim lived and retrieve “items that belonged to him.” Dumas then claimed that when he got to the address that the front door was unlocked so he went inside.

Dumas claimed he made contact with the victim and that’s where she allegedly gave him the necklace and he asked for the ring but claims the victim “told him no and started hitting him.” Dumas then claimed that the victim threw the wooden vase at him and scratched his leg.

After returning to the residence where he was arrested, Dumas told police that his girlfriend said the police had arrived and “so he hid in the shed.”

Dumas reportedly had fresh cuts on his leg, which were photographed by police.

Police stated that Dumas had a valid medical marijuana card, which was taken into evidence. That’s also when police claim they checked records to discover Dumas was a convicted felon from a past incident in 2024.

At that point, police seized Dumas’ BMW and the marijuana, half-burnt joints, a marijuana grinder and the Beretta handgun were all collected and submitted to evidence.

Police state that due to the fact and circumstances surrounding the situation, they had “probable cause to arrest Dumas” on multiple charges including home invasion/robbery, battery (domestic violence), possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Dumas was taken to jail where he remains in custody with bond set at $558,500 with his next court date set on May 23.

The 29-year-old fighter competed in the UFC just two weeks prior to his arrest where he lost to Michał Oleksiejczuk via first-round TKO. UFC officials have not addressed Dumas’ arrest after a request for comment from MMA Fighting.
