Chicago Met Gala looks: Here's who stepped out in style at Logan Square party

Chicagoans with a flair for fashion and finesse celebrated the biggest night in style with a showstopper of their own on Monday timed in parallel with New York's Met Gala.

Attendees descended on the historic Stan Mansion in Logan Square for the Chicago Fashion Coalition event "Chicago Does the Met Gala."

In the New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute event is an annual affair. This year it honored "the swagger and influence of Black fashion" for the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This year's gala supported a new exhibit on Black dandyism — an extravagant style tradition dating back to the 1700s, when enslaved Black men were regarded in high society as fashion objects in themselves. Through the decades, Black dandies used bold sweeps of fabric, pointed adornment and playful takes on gender to reclaim their autonomy, especially in the cultural explosions tied to the Harlem Renaissance and the Great Migration of the early 20th century.

This year, the Met Gala's four co-chairs included singer Pharrell Williams, Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton, actor Colman Domingo and rapper A$AP Rocky, in addition to basketball legend and honorary chair LeBron James. Among the famous Chicago faces who made an impression on the red carpet was WNBA Sky forward Angel Reese, marking her second appearance at the star-studded event.

In Chicago, local fashionistas chose bold suits in royal hues, dapper hats and eye-popping accessories. Some worked with stylists and wore pieces from the world's best-known fashion houses; others crafted their looks from thrift store finds. Here are some standout looks.
