I turned my drab council house into a ‘beige aesthetic’ home with B&Q and Amazon bargains… But trolls say it’s cliche

WE all want our homes to look their best.

So, it comes as no surprise that one woman living in a council house decided to give it a makeover to suit her tastes.

Carol Rowan took to social media to show off how she transformed her council house, turning it from drab to fab.

In the clip, she documented her hallway and staircase makeover.

Before Carol got her hands on it, the staircase used a cheap pine wood for the banister and featured grey carpets.

The walls were bare and painted a dull grey colour.

But she soon turned things around, painting the banister black, adding a warm beige paint to the walls and a luxe runner along the stairs.

She bought a Farrow & Ball paint in the colour Skimming Stone for the walls and a black matte Dulux paint for the banister from B&Q.

Carol painted the stairs white and kept them wooden with a carpet runner down the middle from JW carpets in a herringbone pattern.

To tie in the black accessories, she also bought a black blind for the downstairs window from Blinds 2 Go as well a s black trimmed arch mirror from Amazon.

To add a finishing touch and bring in more of the beige hues she purchased a vase and some dried pampas plants from B&M.

The finished results made her hallway look much more modern and cleaner.

The clip went viral on her TikTok account @carolrowan20 with over 122k views and 3,000 likes.

People were quick to take to the comments to share their thoughts on thecouncil house makeover.

One person wrote: “this is the same thing as crushed velvet live, love, laugh beige tones stair runners quirky plants and 80s mirrors with a Mini Cooper and a mini doodle.”

Others however were much more supportive, another commented: “I love the way you turn the council house into a home.”

How to do your council house up on the cheap

  • Take inspiration from pricier shops and head to B&M, Home Bargains for interior decorations.
  • Head to YouTube for easy to follow tutorials on how to decorate rather than paying for professionals.
  • For a quick glow-up for your floors or anywhere with tiles, opt for stick-on vinyl to save on costs.
  • A lick of paint does wonders to make a room feel brand-new.
  • Switch out kitchen cupboard knobs for modern ones instead of buying brand-new cupboards.

“Beautiful,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Very nice.”

“Looks great,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Stunning.”
