Parking rates to increase at 2 Austin airport garages this week
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Starting Thursday, passengers traveling out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) will need to pay increased parking rates at two garages.
The new rates impact the Red and Blue Parking Garages, while the Economy Parking Lot rates stay the same.
- Red Garage daily rate is changing from $32 to $35
- Red Garage hourly rate is changing from $5 to $7
- Blue Garage daily rate is changing from $23 to $26
In a Monday press release, AUS said the new rates "reflect the airport's response to increasing passenger traffic and rising demand for on-airport parking options."
AUS hopes this update will manage capacity and generate funding for improvements to its facility as part of the Journey With AUS expansion program, including a new Yellow Garage currently in the "build phase."
According to the Journey With AUS webpage, the Yellow Garage will be north of the Blue Garage and have 7,000 spaces. It broke ground in February.
AUS plans for the first 3,000 parking spots to be open in 2026. Teams will then move forward with the Red Garage's removal to clear the way for the Barbara Jordan Terminal expansion.
The Yellow Garage is estimated to be fully done in 2027, with $15 million authorized for engineering and architectural services and $250 million for pre-construction and construction services.
AUS reminded passengers that spots in the Red and Blue Garages can be pre-booked up to 24 hours in advance. There is also free roadside help for issues like flat tires or dead batteries.
These two garages come with security and patrols, 24-hour camera surveillance, and support from the Austin Police Department.
