Buffalo man, Derby man arrested in connection with 15 burglaries throughout WNY
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A Buffalo man and a Derby man were arrested and charged last week in connection with 15 burglaries that took place throughout Western New York over the last four months, according to New York State Police.
Magic Mist Car Wash on South Transit Road in Lockport was reportedly burglarized on Feb. 12, 2025, police said. Over a two-month long investigation, two suspects involved were also linked to 14 other instances of burglary.
The burglaries and attempted burglaries took place primarily at car washes and storage units. The alleged crimes occurred in cities and towns stretching from Silver Creek to Grand Island to Newfane.
Michael Tomaka, 39, of Buffalo, and Cody Canterbury, 27, of Derby, were arrested as a result. They were charged identically with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree grand larceny.
Tomaka received an additional charge of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon while Canterbury was charged with fifth-degree conspiracy. They were transported to Niagara County jail pending arraignment.
