Hudson CSD to discuss $8.35M capital project, $10M energy performance plan
HUDSON, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Hudson City School District has proposed an $8.35 million capital improvement project and an energy performance plan, which district voters can learn more about on Tuesday, April 29 during a public information presentation. Both proposals are expected to appear on the May 20 budget ballot.
School officials said the improvements will enhance safety systems, modernize the district's energy efficiency and replace deteriorated and outdated items. The energy plan will help the district earn an additional 10% in State Aid Funding, but neither project is expected to increase school taxes, the district said.
Capital Project Improvements include:
District Wide:
- Sidewalk repairs
- Bathroom Renovations
- Security Lighting Improvements
Montgomery C. Smith Elementary School:
- Reconstruct tennis courts
- Replace 21 exterior doors and renovate hardware for interior fire doors
- Re-shingle two roofs and fix small roof and attic repairs
- Install three new steam boilers
- Add an emergency building generator
- Install a diesel/gasoline tank fueling system, with concrete supports
- Upgrade the existing salt shed
Hudson Junior and Senior High Schools:
- Repair the exterior wall near the cooling equipment
- Replace selected exterior and interior doors
- Infill of glass for interior walls and firewalls
- Replace gymnasium acoustic panel
- Making multiple improvements to the swimming pool room and systems
- Upgrade auditorium seating
- Replace classroom folding room partitions
- Build a 24' by 40' storage building for athletics and ground equipment
According to the district, the $10 million Energy Performance Contract will allow the school district to take budgeted utility and operational costs and reallocate them into energy-saving capital improvements, without the need for increased taxes. Officials said the state will reimburse the district for 58.5% of the cost, and the proposition on the ballots will ask residents for permission to receive an additional 10% of state aid.

- Installing and converting steam to hot water boilers
- Install high-efficiency hot water condensing boiler plant
- Install 125kW cogeneration unit to offset electricity use and offset heating load of building, pool and DHW
- RTU Replacement
The Hudson City School District has a proposed $58.5 million budget for the 2025-26 school year. Voters can vote on May 20 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hudson Central Fire Station, the Greenport Community Center or the A.B. Shaw Fire House, based on the district zone they're located.
