Austin Hill takes photo finish victory at Talladega Superspeedway
(NEXSTAR) — The ending to the Ag-Pro 300 is exactly what fans come to see at Talladega Superspeedway.
A caution on the final lap would end up naming Austin Hill this year's winner, giving him his third win of the season but his first win at Talladega Superspeedway.
It was a three-wide photo finish at the time of the caution.
17:20:49 was the magic number NASCAR officials used to name Austin Hill the winner
With the chaos at the end of the race, Hill gave all credit to his team, specifically his spotter.
"Derek Kneeland, he is probably the best spotter on the spotter stand," Hill said. "When he's telling me things and painting the picture out back and what's going on up front, I know exactly what he's talking about, and you don't always get that with driver and spotter. You don't get that kind of gel."
The win at Talladega gives Austin Hill his ninth drafting track win - the most all-time in the Xfinity Series.
"To be able to win here is super special. To finally win at all the different superspeedways that we go to, I really wanted to check that box off knowing that we've won it all," Hill said. "To finally get that done here at Talladega is so special."
Hill now leads the series in points and hopes to use the momentum off of this weekend into Texas next week at the Andy's Frozen Custard 300.
You can catch that race Saturday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. ET on The CW.
