Arrest made in Van Vranken homicide investigation
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Schenectady police have made an arrest in connection with a homicide that occurred on Van Vranken Avenue on Wednesday, the department announced on Sunday. Cecil Toland, 19, of Schenectady has reportedly been charged with murder.
The alleged shooting took place at about 3:24 p.m., according to the police department. Upon arrival to the scene, police reportedly found 36-year-old Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. with a gunshot wound to his torso. The victim was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he died a short time later, officials said.
Schenectady police said that they believed the shooting stemmed from a dispute, and the case is being investigated as a homicide. Per the department on Sunday, Toland has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies.
