Combined Tottenham and Liverpool XI – Only three Spurs stars make the cut
Tottenham Hotspur return to action once again in the Premier League with a trip to Anfield, so we have put together a combined Spurs and Liverpool XI from both squads.
Combined XI: Tottenham and Liverpool
This combined Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool XI does not take into consideration players who are unavailable for Sunday’s game. Heung-min Son is currently a doubt, so he is not in contention for our XI.
Alisson Becker: This is probably one of the easier decisions in this combined XI. Of course, Guglielmo Vicario does not help his case with his latest howlers in the last two gameweeks.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: It is a toss-up between Alexander-Arnold and Pedro Porro, but over the course of their careers, Trent has consistently performed at the highest level for longer – hence he gets the nod. Let’s not forget how much creativity he brings to the attack as well.
Virgil Van Dijk: Van Dijk gets in ahead of Cristian Romero here, and there is no need for lengthy explanations. The Dutchman is simply the best defender in the Premier League at the moment.
Micky van de Ven: The Netherlands have two unique centre-halves in their squad – defenders who bring very different strengths to the side. Van Dijk’s composure and Van de Ven’s electric pace seem like a dream Liverpool – Tottenham pairing.
Destiny Udogie: Tottenham’s Udogie takes the left-back spot in this XI. There is an argument for Andrew Robertson, but the Scot has been inconsistent this season, with moments of sloppiness having crept into his game.
Ryan Gravenberch: Liverpool’s number six has been immense this season, and there is a strong case that without his emergence, the Reds would not have pushed all the way in the title race.
Alexis Mac Allister: Mac Allister is another player who has delivered consistently for Liverpool. Arne Slot has found a good balance in midfield, and given how well it functions, it is hard to justify breaking it up.
Dejan Kulusevski: One Tottenham man who does break into the midfield alongside Gravenberch and Mac Allister is Kulusevski. The Swede would add some much-needed creativity and flair to the centre of the park. In all honesty, Lucas Bergvall could easily be swapped in here based on his debut Tottenham season.
Mohamed Salah: Salah is the league’s top scorer and leading assister. No current Tottenham player comes close to matching his numbers – he walks into the right-wing slot of this XI.
Cody Gakpo: Spurs’ forwards have been underwhelming this season, so Gakpo gets in. The versatile Liverpool man impressed before his minor injury setback – when fully fit, he looked absolutely unplayable.
Luis Diaz: No Tottenham attacker currently displaces a Liverpool forward in this team. We would back Arne Slot’s best front three to get the business done in our combined XI.
