Homicide Unit conducting recovery operation

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The Buffalo Police Department's Homicide Unit and the department's Underwater Recovery Team are conducting a recovery operation in the Buffalo Canal near the I-190/Route 198 split, according to a Buffalo spokesperson.
The Homicide Unit will work with the Erie County Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the individual's identity, the spokesperson said.
There was a heavy police presence in the area and the 198 West exit ramp to I-190 South was closed Saturday evening beginning around 9 p.m. The exit ramp reopened around 11:15 p.m.
