City of Troy to begin annual hydrant flushing program
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Troy will begin its annual hydrant flushing program on Monday. The process is expected to last until May 6.
According to the Mayor's Office, the flushing program helps to ensure that the city's water distribution system is functioning safely and efficiently. Flushing will take place during normal working hours, except for in the downtown business district, where the procedure may occur during off-peak hours in order to minimize disruptions.
Residents and businesses may notice temporary water discoloration and a reduction in water pressure, the Mayor's Office said. Residents are advised to avoid doing laundry while flushing is in progress in their neighborhood in order to avoid potential staining.
"While this work may cause some short-term inconvenience, it is a critical part of maintaining the integrity of our water system and ensuring high-quality water for Troy residents and businesses," Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello said.
Flushing dates may change due to weather or other circumstances. Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates. Anyone with questions, or to find out when and where flushing will occur, can visit the city of Troy's website or contact the city's Department of Public Utilities at (518) 237-0241.
