Horror as three injured after ‘man seen wielding CROSSBOW and weapons’ in broad daylight
THREE people were left injured after a man was seen wielding a crossbow in broad daylight today.
Officers raced to the scene in Headingley, Leeds, shortly before 3pm.
Cops were called to reports of a man carrying weapons, one of which was a crossbow, it has been confirmed.
Police cars were seen blocking off the area, best known for the famous Otley Run, bar crawl, popular among students.
Locals also reported being taken off buses due to a road closure between Arndale and Woodies pub in Headingley.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to Otley Road, Leeds at 2.47pm today to reports of an ongoing serious incident involving a man seen with weapons.
“Officers attended and located three people who had suffered injuries which are at this time not being treated as life-threatening.
“A male suspect was located and detained.
“Inquiries are in their initial stages to determine the wider circumstances of what has taken place and further updates will follow.
“A number of police scenes remain in place and ensuring public safety remains our priority.”
Bethany, a restaurant worker, described the shocking event.
She explained that a group of girls approached her asking if they could hide in the restaurant as a man ran down the road with a crossbow.
Bethany told Yorkshire Live: “It was really scary, because obviously, you don’t get this happening in Leeds.
“It’s not normal. You hear about this stuff in America, but not on your doorstep. It was really scary.”
Otley Road is in the centre of Headingley, the Otley Run is one of the most famous bar crawls in the UK.
