Bears trade with Bills, take BC's Ozzy Trapilo and Texas A&M's Shemar Turner in Round 2
The Bears traded the No. 41 pick of the draft to the Bills on Friday night in a deal that saw six selections exchanged.
The Bears moved down 15 picks from 41 to 56. They got the Bills’ two second-round picks — No. 56 and 62 — and the Bills’ fourth-rounder, No. 109. The Bears also traded the No. 72 pick and their seventh-rounder to the Bills.
The Bears took Boston College tackle Ozzy Trapilo with Pick 56. At 6-8, 316 pounds, Trapilo started 12 games at right tackle in each of the past two seasons after starting 10 times at left tackle in 2022.
At No. 62, they took Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner. The 6-3, 290-pound Turner played on the edge his first two years in college before gaining weight and moving inside. Last year, he played everywhere from nose tackle to edge rusher. He had a stress fracture at the end of last season.
Trapilo's father Steve died in 2004 but was an All-American tackle at BC who blocked for Doug Flutie during the Eagles' famous Hail Mary. Bears general manager Ryan Poles is a Boston College alum, though he played long after the elder Trapilo.
The move was Ryan Poles’ first trade of the draft — and his eighth draft-day trade-down in four years.
The Bears spent their first two picks in the draft on pass-catchers: tight end Colston Loveland, who was picked 10th on Thursday night, and Missouri receiver Luther Burden, who went 39th to the Bears. The Saints held the 40th pick between the Bears’ two second-round selections.
Poles said Thursday that the Bears explored both trading up and trading down in the first round before ultimately deciding to do neither.
