Popular car fest CANCELLED weeks before event as ‘heartbroken’ owners share devastating message in huge blow to drivers

A POPULAR car festival has been cancelled just weeks before the event in a huge blow to motoring fans.

The Run To The Sun (RTTS) festival, which showcases custom cars and has live music performances, had returned to Newquay, Cornwall, in 2024, following an eleven year absence.

However, the “heartbroken” organisers of the popular motoring event have said they were forced to cancel the 2025 edition, due to be held from May 23 to 26, in part due to rising costs.

They said the decision was “not made lightly” but added focus would be put on the RTTS festival for 2026.

Petrolheads who had purchased tickets for this year’s event have the choice to either roll their tickets over for 2026 or receive a refund.

Writing on the festival’s website, the organisers said: “It is with a heavy heart that we must share the difficult decision to cancel the RTTS 25 event and shift our focus towards RTTS 26.

“This decision was not made lightly, as RTTS is so much more than just a business for us; it represents our love, passion, and dedication – it’s a massive part of our lives.

“Bringing RTTS back to Cornwall has been a labour of love, rooted in our commitment to celebrate cars and community.”

The organisers added it would not be in the “best interest” to keep the 2025 edition running, “given the current circumstances”.

They continued: “We find ourselves navigating challenging times in the event industry – many of our fellow events face similar hurdles, with rising costs and a cautious audience impacting ticket sales.

“We understand that these are tough times and that many are being prudent with their spending.

“Our goal has always been to provide the highest quality and safest experience possible, and we don’t feel we can meet the expectations of our community at this time.”

The group’s heartfelt message concluded that the organisers were “truly saddened” to not be hosting the popular event.

They said: “This decision breaks our hearts, but we want to assure you that this is not the end of the road for RTTS.

“Thank you all for your unwavering support. We love each and every one of you.”

Heartbroken fans have shared their sadness at the news, with many saying they were “gutted” the show had been cancelled.

Writing on Facebook, one said: “Really gutted to hear this.

“I’ve got so much respect for the organisers and know this wouldn’t have been an easy decision.

Rock fans devastated as huge band cancel series of gigs across UK cities after ‘cruel twist of fate’

The Lowestoft rockers announced that they were no longer able to do some instore shows across the UK.

The rock band shared the bad news with their fans on their Instagram stories.

“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of our forthcoming May instore shows in Coventry, Leeds, and Kingston,” the group wrote.

“A cruel twist of fate and a sprinkling of logistical chaos have conspired to halt our plans, and alas, the rock shan’t roll in your local record emporiums as intended.”

The Darkness continued: “We instead will be involved in honouring an even higher cause, which will become clear forthwith.

“Now, before you curse the gods of Rock, know this: we don’t make these decisions lightly. We were very much looking forward to basking in your radiant glow.”

“RTTS means a lot to me — this year marks 30 years since I first went as a kid.

“Watching it evolve and return to its roots with a fresh new feel has been incredible.”

This comes after an iconic event, due to make a comeback after a six-year hiatus, was scrapped just days before its opening night.

Sales were too low for The Spring Masked Ball, due to be held in Helston, Cornwall, despite the organisers saying guests could bring alcoholic drinks from outside the premises.

The gig was set to take place in former theme park Flambards, now named Los Flambardos, which is a huge space now closed off to the public.

It had previously taken place on the nearby cliffs at Porthleven.

Organisers of the ball announced the cancellation last Monday, apologising for the disappointing news.
