University at Buffalo says it's working with students after ICE restores SEVIS records
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- The University at Buffalo says it's working with affected students after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) reactivated SEVIS record statuses that were "unexpectedly terminated" earlier in the month.
SEVIS, a web-based system, keeps information on and tracks nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors in the U.S., according to ICE.
The visas of 13 current and former students were recently terminated following the termination of SEVIS records. The students were told they would have to leave the country by the school's International Student Services (ISS) office.
Federal officials announced on Friday that legal status for international students would be restored. Now, UB says it is working with the affected students to figure out what it means for their visa status.
"The university will continue to provide supportive resources to all affected students on an individual basis to develop academic plans that address their personal goals and unique situations," UB said in a statement.
