ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- It's Friday! Meteorologist Matt Mackie says temperatures are similar to Thursday, with highs in the 70s, but there is a chance of some rain in the afternoon and evening.
Kingston police are investigating a murder-suicide, they say, that involved a married couple. Also, as the state continues to pass budget extenders, school districts may be impacted. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Friday, April 25.
1. Police investigating murder-suicide in Kingston
The Kingston Police Department is investigating the deaths of a married couple in Ulster County. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon.
2. Youngest candidate for Mohonasen School Board turns 18
Elizabeth Lewis turned 18 on Tuesday, the last criteria she needed to meet for a Board of Education seat at Mohonasen Central School. She graduated from the district a semester early last January and is ready to return while earning a college degree in biology.
3. Major police presence on Main Street in Milton
A Milton police officer was shot while responding to a reported structure fire in Milton Wednesday evening. Vermont State Police said that no one is currently in custody, but there is no threat to the public. On Thursday, state police spokesperson Adam Silverman said the wounded officer, Milton Police Sgt. Paul Locke, is expected to be okay.
4. Schenectady PD investigating second homicide in 24-hours
Schenectady police are investigating their second homicide within 24 hours. The police said they were called around 1 p.m. Thursday, to a home at 1834 Hamburg St. for a person with a weapon.
5. No finalized state budget creates concerns for school districts
Lawmakers on Thursday passed the eighth budget extender of the year. While state leaders are getting closer to a finalized agreement, the late state budget is impacting school districts.
