EU allocates €250,000 to support Afghan migrants expelled from Pakistan
The EU has allocated €250,000 through the International Red Cross to support Afghan migrants expelled from Pakistan, providing essential aid.
The European Union has allocated €250,000 to the International Federation of Red Cross in Afghanistan to assist Afghan migrants recently expelled from Pakistan. This financial aid aims to address the urgent needs of Afghan migrants in the country, particularly in providing shelter, healthcare services, clean drinking water, and food supplies.
Andreas Papaconstantinou, the European Commission’s Director for the Middle East and Central Asia, confirmed that the funds would be used to respond to the emergency situation faced by these migrants. He explained that the aid would directly support thousands of Afghan refugees who have been left homeless and are struggling with severe economic difficulties.
In a tweet, Papaconstantinou highlighted the plight of the migrants, saying, “Many of these migrants have lost their homes and are now facing poverty and an uncertain future.” He also mentioned that during his visit to Peshawar, he met with some of the Afghan migrants and listened to their stories. He expressed deep admiration for their resilience and determination, stating, “I was deeply moved by the resilience and perseverance of these people. The EU will stand by them.”
According to the United Nations, in the past three weeks alone, approximately 120,000 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Pakistan. This sharp increase in expulsions follows Pakistan’s decision to deport undocumented migrants, leaving returnees to grapple with severe economic hardships and a lack of essential services in Afghanistan.
The EU’s swift response demonstrates a commitment to supporting vulnerable Afghan migrants during this crisis. This financial aid highlights the ongoing challenges faced by refugees and underscores the need for continued international cooperation to alleviate the humanitarian burden on Afghanistan. Further support from global organizations will be crucial in ensuring the well-being of these displaced individuals as they rebuild their lives in a difficult environment.
