Cup of Coffee: Anthony stays hot with homer; Zanetello tallies three hits

4/25 Cup of Coffee:
Boston's affiliates went 3-1 on Thursday, with Salem taking the only loss in shutout fashion. Behind home runs from Roman Anthony, Nate Eaton, and Corey Rosier, Worcester blew out Syracuse. Behind timely late hits from Blaze Jordan and Tyler Miller, Portland came back to defeat Reading for the third straight night. Behind strong efforts from Hayden Mullins on the mound and Nazzan Zanetello (pictured) at the plate, Greenville hung on to take down Spartanburg.

-----

Five members of Worcester's lineup recorded multiple hits in a blowout win at Polar Park. Roman Anthony led the way out of the leadoff spot by going 2 for 4 with his fifth home run of the season, one RBI, three runs scored, and one walk. Batting behind him, Nick Sogard went 2 for 5 with two doubles, one RBI, and two runs scored. Abraham Toro and Nate Eaton each went 2 for 4, with the former driving in one run and the latter crushing a two-run homer as part of a three-RBI night. Alex Binelas went 2 for 5 with a two-run single and one run scored, which occurred when Corey Rosier hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning. Marcelo Mayer went hitless but still contributed two RBIs, one run, and one walk.

Hunter Dobbins went six innings in his start (third overall appearance) of the season for Worcester. The 25-year-old righty allowed just one earned run on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. He threw 75 pitches (51 strikes) and generated 10 whiffs en route to picking up the win. Zack Kelly and Wyatt Mills followed Dobbins by combining for three scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

Another day, another come-from-behind win for Portland. Tyler Uberstine got the start and went the first five innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, no walks, one hit by pitch, and four strikeouts. The righty finished with 70 pitches (44 strikes) and generated eight whiffs. Alex Hoppe took over out of the bullpen and surrendered two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. Zach Bryant and Jonathan Brand then combined for 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief, with the former notching the winning decision and the latter securing the save.

Ahbram Liendo was the lone member of Portland's lineup to record multiple hits, as he went 2 for 4 with one double and one run scored. Caden Rose also doubled for his only hit of the contest. Tyler Miller and Blaze Jordan each went 1 for 3 but were key contributors in the comeback effort. Miller clubbed his third home run of the season (a two-run shot) in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to one. In the eighth, Jordan singled in the tying run (Mikey Romero) before Miller plated the go-ahead run (Liendo) on a sacrifice fly.

Hayden Mullins was nearly perfect in his start for Greenville. The 24-year-old lefty allowed just one hit over four scoreless innings in which he fanned six and walked none. He retired the final 12 batters he faced after giving up a leadoff single to begin the game and finished with 74 pitches (51 strikes), generating 12 whiffs. Zach Fogell scattered three hits and struck out four across 1 2/3 scoreless innings in his season debut, while Adam Smith gave up three runs in the ninth before locking down his first save of 2025.

Nazzan Zanetello paced the Greenville lineup by going 3 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and one run scored. Hudson White tripled for the first time in his professional career and drove in one run with his lone hit of the night. Yophery Rodriguez went 1 for 3 with one run scored, two walks, and one stolen base out of the leadoff spot. Zach Ehrhard drew three walks and scored one run while Miguel Bleis and Kolby Johnson each recorded one RBI. Fraymi De Leon scored twice and stole his second base of the year out of the nine-hole.

-----

Devin Futrell went two innings and took the loss in his start for Salem, allowing three earned runs on five hits, one walk, and zero strikeouts. Luis Cohen took over in the third but struggled in relief, surrendering four runs (two earned) on five hits, three walks, one hit by pitch, and two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. Joe Vogatsky yielded an additional run in the seventh. Offensively, Freili Encarnacion and Antonio Anderson accounted for four of their side's seven hits. They both went 2 for 4, with Encarnacion recording his sixth double of the season.

Player of the Day: Nazzan Zanetello gets the nod for putting together his first three-hit day of the season on Thursday. The right-handed hitting 19-year-old is now slashing .228/.362/.333 with six doubles, seven RBIs, 14 runs scored, three stolen bases, 11 walks, and 27 strikeouts through 15 games (69 plate appearances) for Greenville. He is currently ranked as the No. 38 prospect in the organization.
