A TOP cleaning expert has shared a little known way to clear your BBQ of grime.
The weather could be set to warm up as the British summer looms, and that means it could be grilling season.
However, it’s been reported that Brits are believed to be some of the worst offenders when it comes to cleaning BBQs.
Some households wait until summer to wash away the dirt, and many people even admit to cleaning their grills only once a year.
This could be dangerous as negligence can increase the risk of bacterial illnesses such as E. coli and salmonella.
Pests could also be attracted to the leftovers which could lead to further damage.
Chris Bonnett is the founder of GardeningExpress and he’s said that beer could be the secret to cleaning your outdoor grill.
Both the acidity and the carbonation in the alcoholic drink could help loosen the grease and grime on the surface.
This would then make it easier to remove the rest of the food remnants when you scrub the surfaces clean.
He explained: “BBQs are often forgotten about until it’s time to pull them back out and cook again, but it’s important not to neglect cleaning them.
“Although it can feel like a chore, grease and grime can build up quickly on the grill and affect the quality of your cooking.
“Having a clean grill will also help it last much longer, meaning you’ll be able to get the most out of your appliance.
“Beer is often a BBQ staple, so any cans left around can be used as an effective cleaner. This also works with leftover beer that has lost its fizz, as the acidity helps break down grease and grime.”
He added: “Pour some beer over a lightly heated grill to loosen the dirt and then scrub with a coarse scouring pad once the beer has stopped sizzling.
“Wipe away any residue with warm water and your BBQ will be ready for use!”
