'Elsbeth' Spoilers: Carrie Preston Reacts to That Special Person's Death in April 24 Episode

Carrie Preston is speaking out following that death in the latest episode of her CBS series Elsbeth.

The new episode “I Know What You Did Thirty-Three Summers Ago,” the 18th episode of season two, aired on Thursday night (April 24) and featured the death of a recurring character.

Carrie noted that the events of this episode will send Elsbeth into a dark place.

“It is our most dramatic episode of the whole series so far, and I think it is an important episode because of that,” she told Variety. “We are going to see how it is that she overcomes it, because it does knock her off her feet and it really sends her into a darker place that we haven’t seen before.”

Judge Milton Crawford, played by Carrie‘s real-life husband Michael Emerson, gets assassinated right in front of her face.

On the show, Crawford is revealed to be the killer of a man named Andrew, but the man’s partner Delia gets framed for the murder instead. Elsbeth is defending Delia in court and Crawford just so happens to be the judge on this case.

We learned in the latest episode that Andrew witnessed Crawford kill a young woman over 30 years ago. Crawford later killed Andrew to cover up his previous crime. After Elsbeth discovers this and finds evidence that could implicate Crawford, the judge uses his power to stop her. Delia ends up killing Crawford to make sure he can never get away with his crimes.

In a new interview, Carrie revealed that the Elsbeth team was originally going to keep Michael on the show for longer, but she understands why he was killed off.

“[The writers] started toying with the idea of keeping him longer — just because they really liked him, as you can imagine, because Michael is such a genius. But I think for the arc of the season and for what Elsbeth has been working on in her journey, it really made sense to reach the conclusion that they did. And I think it is one of the strongest things that the writers’ room has done this season for us,” she told Variety.

Carrie also opened up about getting to work with her real-life husband yet again.

“I was just so happy to invite him into this world I have been living in, and show him the joy and the goodwill and the kindness of all the people I am working with,” Carrie said. “You know, the people I am spending upwards of 16 hours a day with! It was just wonderful to have him in that world, but it did mean our lives were logistically a little challenging whenever both of us were on set. There was no one to hold down the fort, so to speak.”

There has been a shakeup to the Elsbeth schedule for the final episodes of the season.
