Applications open for Mayor-President's Youth Advisory Council
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet is inviting high school students across from across the parish to apply for the Mayor-President Youth Advisory Council.
The program offers high school student to learn about local government, engage directly with community leaders and advocate for issues.
Boulet explained the ultimate goal for members of the youth council is to grow up educated in the government, ask questions and understand how the government impacts lives.
"They think really deep about our community and their future and what they want to see in their community." Boulet said. "I did a Q&A with them and they ask some pretty intense questions. They are ready to be great civic leaders and that's our goal is really to empower our young people to step up and become civic leaders."
Applications will be accepted from April 16 through June 16. To apply, students must complete the application form available online. The deadline to apply is June 16 with the first meeting take place in August 2025.
