Families worried water leak could cause sinkhole
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Water is streaming down the street in a northwest Oklahoma City neighborhood, and neighbors are concerned. One man called News 4 after he claimed the city wasn't making swift progress and was nervous that a sinkhole would form.
"They said, we know about it. It's just not a priority right now, not an emergency. We'll get to it eventually," said John Vorva, a concerned neighbor.
John Vorva has lived in the Durbin Hills neighborhood for years.
"It's not normal for Durbin Hills to have three plus leaks in a very short period of time," said Vorva.
The latest water leak starts up the road and runs down the street.
Vorva said it happened two weeks ago, and the city came to look at it.
"They did the repair, filled it in with dirt and asphalt, and departed. Two weeks later, we still have water running down the street and the asphalt in the street starting to sink," said Vorva.
So, he called News 4 for help. Our crews showed up Wednesday morning just minutes after a city crew got to the neighborhood.
"It's amazing. It's a little too coincidental for me, I think, but I don't care. At the end of the day, whatever it takes to get them motivated, that's all I care about," said Vorva.
He's also not just concerned about the water streaming down the road. The asphalt in front of his neighbor's driveway is starting to get uneven.
"I noticed earlier this week when I was driving out of the street that the asphalt was starting to sink," said Vorva.
Now, he's hopeful there will be some changes in the neighborhood, soon.
"It's nice that one of the local news stations does this because oftentimes they say, yeah, whatever, but then they start getting the spotlight put on them and not in a flattering way...we just want this problem resolved," said Vorva.
The city crew that was working on the leak Wednesday morning was getting the area prepared for Thursday morning's scheduled repair.
The city said, barring any complications, work should be completed by Thursday night.
