BUT, BSTU meet to discuss teacher’s term leave issue

Officials of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and the Barbados Secondary teachers Union (BSTU) are presently locked in a meeting with management of the Ministry of Educational Transformation at the Ministry’s Constitution Road offices, discussing the long-standing issue of teacher’s term leave.

The meeting comes at a time when the BUT informed its members yesterday evening that it would be engaging in a two-day sick out on Thursday and Friday in protest of the delay reinstatement of the Term’s Vacation Leave Policy.

The NATION is also in receipt of correspondence from the BSTU to its members indicating that it would not be taking part in the planned sick out as the Union was not notified by its counterpart and that as the meeting was called for today the BSTU would not assume any outcomes of that meeting.

The policy relates to teachers who have completed 15 years of service. They would receive a term’s leave every five years thereafter. However, it was stopped by the Ministry about ten years ago.
