Mum shares clever 90p hack to stop tots & young kids ever falling out of their ‘big boy beds’ & risking a broken bone

A MUM has shared a brilliant hack to make sure your tot doesn’t fall out of the ”big boy bed”.

Watching your toddler become bigger is an exciting part of the journey for many parents – however, it also comes with stress, especially once the little one is ready to progress to a bigger bed.

Some joked and said they could do with this solution ‘after a night out’[/caption]

The larger beds often come without a side rail – which makes it easier for your child to fall out and potentially break a bone.

Luckily, one savvy mum, Amie Simms, has come to rescue with the perfect solution – and it’s so easy, you’ll wonder why you hadn’t thought of it sooner.

Taking to TikTok, Amie revealed how a basic summer item – a pool noodle – could add extra safety to your little one’s sleep.

She said in the now-viral video: ”We’ve just transferred our toddler into a big boy bed out of his little toddler bed.

”I saw another mum do this with a pool noodle and I thought I had to give it a go.”

The ”life hack”, which will cost you a mere 90p, is as straightforward as they come – simply take the pool noodle and place it underneath the bedsheets, before tucking them under the mattress.

To ensure the pool noodle wouldn’t move as much, Amie said she used two bedsheets – a waterproof one, as well as a basic bedsheet.

”I thought this [the bed] is a lot higher, so I thought I would give it a go – just in case he falls out of the bed.”

Raving about the purse-friendly solution, Amie said: ”It’s so good. It’s a lot more subtle in person, doesn’t move and has worked an absolute treat – give it a go.”

Amie, who posts under the username @amiesimmsugc, went on in the caption: ”This works sooo well! Is a lot more subtle in person, he doesn’t even notice it’s there on the edge of this bed!

Sits really well under the mattress protector & fitted sheet, doesn’t move and stops him rolling out of bed without feeling like a baby.

”It’s genius, so glad I saw it!” she went on in the comments.

More parenting hacks

IF you want to make your life easier as a first-time mum, here's nine hacks you won't want to miss.

1. Routine Charts

Create visual charts for daily routines. Use pictures and stickers to make them engaging for younger children.

2. Meal Planning

Plan meals a week in advance to save time and reduce stress. Involve your children in meal prep to teach them cooking skills.

3. Toy Rotation

Keep a portion of toys stored away and rotate them periodically. This keeps playtime fresh and exciting without the need for constant new purchases.

4. DIY Cleaning Solutions

Make child-safe cleaning solutions using vinegar and baking soda. It’s effective and keeps harsh chemicals away from little hands.

5. Time-Out Jar

Create a time-out jar filled with calming activities written on slips of paper. When emotions run high, children can pick an activity to help them settle down.

6. Educational Apps

Utilise educational apps and websites to make screen time productive. Look for ones that offer interactive learning in subjects your child is interested in.

7. Command Centre

Set up a family command centre with a calendar, key hooks, and a bulletin board. It helps keep everyone organised and aware of daily schedules.

8. Emergency Kit

Keep a small emergency kit in the car with essentials like snacks, water, first aid supplies, and a change of clothes. It’s a lifesaver for unexpected situations.

9. Label Everything

Use labels for clothes, school supplies, and lunch boxes. It makes it easier to keep track of belongings, especially in shared spaces like schools.

‘This is such a good idea’

Since being shared on TikTok, the video has taken the platform by storm, winning Amie more than a whopping 1million views, over 16.2 likes and 1,032 shares.

A whopping 122 social media users flooded to comments to share their thoughts, as many praised the savvy mum for the handy solution.

One person joked: ”That’s a good tip for me after a night out.”

A fellow mum chimed in: ”Yesss and then when we go abroad we used to put an inflatable one underneath.”

Another parent wrote; ”This is what I did with my eldest. Worked a treat. But my toddler I feel is too feral.”

”How handy is this! I’ll do this for my girlie to save buying another rail,” a viewer thanked Amie, as another dubbed it ”such a good idea”.
