Will Liverpool be the champions of the Premier League this season?

When Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2019/2020, they had the title wrapped up from the opening fixture, and it felt like they were streets ahead. It was a phenomenal achievement, given that it was arguably when Manchester City were at the peak of their powers.

While this season hasn’t had the same calibre of competition, that’s not a slight on the Reds. They’ve done what needed to be done. It’s not presumptuous or premature to say they’ll be the ones who win the league title this season.

What do the bookies say?

The bookies usually have their finger on the pulse, so to speak, and at the time of writing, Liverpool is now 1/100 to win the league, so it would take a meltdown of epic proportion for them not to get their hands on their 20th title. Their latest victory over West Ham has put them within a stone’s throw of the title with six games left.

Some UK sportsbooks have even started to pay out on outright bets placed at the beginning of the season on Liverpool to win the league. The best betting sites for UK punters to enjoy cover many options.

For Liverpool fans, the best betting sites will be those who have already paid out on their bets or offered the best odds at the start of the season, when you could get between 7/1 and 10/1. Other punters opted for derivative markets such as Mo Salah to win the Golden Boot, which also looks like a dead certainty. There are also whispers that Mo could get his hands on the Ballon d’Or as he quickly flies through the rankings of Liverpool’s top goalscorers. No team has lost the league from a position of 1/25, let alone 1/100, so it’s looking good for Liverpool fans.

A truly global brand

Liverpool’s recent success has propelled them to near the top of the list of the world’s most valuable clubs. Anfield is one of the top 10 tourist attractions on Trip Advisor, and if you go to Anfield on a matchday, you’ll see nationalities from all over the world. There are Danish, Chinese, Scandinavians and Americans. In fact, it can be challenging to hear a local accent — that’s how much of a global success Liverpool has become.

This is solely down to the changes brought in, Jurgen Klopp’s foundation and the fantastic job that Arne Slot has done this season despite a few rocky moments, such as the home loss to Nottingham Forest early on in the season, which proved to be an anomaly in the grander context of the season.

The parade, which is already planned for the end of May, will see Jurgen’s return, who is speaking at a Gala dinner. Hundreds of thousands of people will line the streets of Liverpool just like they did after the Champions League triumph in 2019.

A campaign to remember

With Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all coming close to the title in the last decade, rarely has one of these three genuinely set the stall way out in front — on paper, it looks like City have dominated. However, as Liverpool fans know, this has rarely been the case.

This season, the Reds have been grinding out some incredible results. Although they have slipped on a few occasions, City and Arsenal have been so far behind the expected quality of teams in the chasing pack that it’s been Liverpool’s title since Christmas. Some Reds were even saying in October that the incredible drop in quality from Pep Guardiola’s team and Arsenal’s ability to blow hot and cold when it actually matters have played right into Arne Slot’s hand.

To be honest, that downplays the impact of the Dutchman. You don’t just randomly come to the English Premier League and waltz to the title in your first season without doing plenty of things right. Although rumours of Trent’s departure continue to swirl, and there is still uncertainty about the long-term potential of Mo Salah staying, Liverpool is in a phenomenal position domestically, especially now that Virgil van Dijk has committed to stay with the club until 2027. Aside from 2020, this has been their best campaign in the last 35 years.

Final thoughts

There are no prizes for guessing what we’re going to say. We think Liverpool are going to wrap up the league, arguably this weekend. They could be crowned champions by the time you have read this piece; it feels as though it’s a foregone conclusion.

Without wanting to tempt fate, the parade plans are already in place. People are booking the time off work and given that Arsenal needs to make up a 13-point difference with six games remaining, it just doesn’t seem feasible.

They don’t even have a fully fit out and out striker, and they haven’t for quite some time. Forest are already waning, and the rest of the chasing pack are so far behind that it’s not even worth mentioning.

So, yes, Liverpool will be the champions of the Premier League this season. Next year, there could be better competition, but with City in freefall and their 100+ charges judgment day soon upon them, they might not even be in the league next year, so back-to-back titles could be a real possibility with the right recruitment.
