3 arrested after drug-soaked documents sent to jail
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Mail that was allegedly laced with drugs was sent to the Oklahoma County jail earlier this month. Now, officers have made arrests in connection with the case.
Agents from the jail showed up at a southeast Oklahoma City home on Tuesday with a warrant for a woman who may have been sending the mail. Investigators said the mail was soaked with fentanyl and meth.
"At about 10:00 last night, we heard a jail phone call that stated that they had brought everything inside and they had locked the doors," said Gavin Fields, an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Division at OCDC.
On Tuesday, agents arrived at the home and found the door barricaded. So, they broke through a window and a door to get in.
Agents said the mail looked like a legal document addressed to an inmate, but after more observation, they realized the papers inside were drug-laced, and it was stopped before making it to the inmate.
"The label on the front had been printed, and it appeared to be glued onto it. It was false legal mail," said Fields.
Agents said the entire package had about 60 grams of drugs in it.
"Which would have been enough to kill the entire deal 20 times over. About 60 grams is enough to kill 30,000 people," said Noah Kenney, an investigator with the Criminal Investigation Division at OCDC.
In addition to the fake court documents found, officers also uncovered more drugs inside the home.
"We found evidence of there's a lot of paraphernalia inside. There's a powder, there's residue of narcotics. There's also a meth lab inside that we just found went back out the way for other officers," said Fields.
Agents said drug-laced papers can be used to make money or get high. It's not clear what the inmate was planning to do in this case.
There were five people inside the house at the time of the raid. Three of them were arrested, including the woman they said spearheaded the operation.
