What Happened to Lorde's Washington Square Park Event? Singer Reveals Police Shut Down Her Pop-Up
Lorde fans took over New York City’s Washington Square Park in such big numbers that the police had to shut down her plans for a pop-up event.
The 28-year-old singer simply sent out a text to fans at 4pm ET and told them, “Meet me in the park. Tonight 7pm – xx.”
Lorde didn’t say which park, but fans figured out that something was happening in Washington Square Park, which is near the campus of NYU.
The event happened amid Lorde‘s recent announcement that her song “What Was That” will be released soon. One of her teaser videos for the track including a clip of her walking around Washington Square Park.

Police shut down the event due for crowd control purposes.
“Omg @thepark the cops are shutting us down. I am truly amazed by how many of you showed up!!! But they’re telling me you gotta disperse… I’m so sorry,” Lorde said in an Instagram Story statement on Tuesday night (April 22).
Hopefully Lorde figures out new plans to see her fans again soon!
