Jesse Armstrong returns to HBO with Mountainhead trailer
Succession creator Jesse Armstrong's follow-up to his Emmy-winning hit is the HBO movie Mountainhead, which just got its first trailer. The movie is about four tech billionaire friends, played by Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef, who are vacationing together at a mountain retreat when global chaos breaks out. Do they reckon with their role in creating this situation? Or do they keep playing poker and eating turbot? Youssef has described Mountainhead as "funny in the same way Succession is." Armstrong writes and directs the film, which premieres on Max on May 31.
Kevin Hart to host 2025 BET Awards
Comedian Kevin Hart will host the 2025 BET Awards, the 25th edition of the award show honoring achievements in music, film, television, and sports. Hart is hosting for the first time since 2011. The show airs live on BET on June 9.
Song Sung Blue sets Christmas release date
Focus Features has slated musical drama Song Sung Blue for a Christmas Day release. The film stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as two down-on-their-luck performers who form a Neil Diamond tribute band. The film is written and directed by Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow) and based on a documentary of the same name. The cast includes Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, and Jim Belushi. Jackman and Hudson released a first look photo.
2025 Webby Awards winners announced
The Webbys, honoring the best of the internet, announced the 2025 winners. Winners include Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Gracie Abrams, Keke Palmer, Jimmy Fallon, Taika Waititi, Simone Biles, and Jason and Travis Kelce. Special achievement award recipients include Snoop Dogg, Walton Goggins, Chicken Shop Date creator Amelia Dimoldenberg, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and SNL's Marcello Hernández. Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce to announce Tony nominations
Tony Award winners Sarah Paulson (Appropriate) and Wendell Pierce (Clybourne Park) will announce the 78th Annual Tony Awards nominations. The nominations will air live from Sofitel New York on CBS Mornings and the Tony Awards YouTube page at 9 a.m. ET on May 1. Projected nominees this year include Death Becomes Her, Oh, Mary!, and Glengarry Glen Ross.
Heartstopper to end with movie
Heartstopper, Netflix's cult hit queer teen romance drama, will conclude with a made-for-streaming movie. It will be written by creator Alice Oseman and based on the forthcoming sixth volume of Oseman's graphic novel series. Wash Westmoreland will direct. Filming will start this summer. Here's the official synopsis: "Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?"
I Know What You Did Last Summer revival gets trailer
Sony released a trailer for the upcoming Scream-style revival of Kevin Williamson's other classic slasher franchise. The revival stars stars Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, and Chase Sui Wonders as the young people who did something bad last summer and are now being hunted down by a killer with a fishhook, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprising their roles from the first two movies, which were released in 1997 and 1998. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson directs the sequel, which opens in theaters July 18.
Netflix sets Enola Holmes 3
Millie Bobby Brown is officially back in action as Enola Holmes for the third installment of Netflix's Victorian mystery film franchise. Production is now underway in the U.K. on Enola Holmes 3, which finds Sherlock Holmes' teenage sister trying to solve her most treacherous case yet. Cast members Louis Partridge, Henry Cavill, Helena Boham-Carter, Himesh Patel, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster are returning. Jack Thorne is once again writing the script, with his Adolescence collaborator Philip Barantini taking over directing duties from Harry Bradbeer.
There's a new Simpsons episode on Disney+
To celebrate Earth Day, Disney+ just released an exclusive episode of The Simpsons. The full-length episode, “Yellow Planet,” is a parody of a National Geographic-style nature documentary, with Homer and Marge as whales, Bart as an iguana, Lisa as a finch, and familiar faces from Springfield popping up as various creatures. It's the third D+ exclusive episode this season, following "The Past and the Furious,” and “O C’mon All Ye Faithful.” The Simpsons is currently airing its 36th season on Fox.
