Evacuations underway as wildfire breaks out in New Jersey
BARNEGAT, N.J. (PIX11) -- Mandatory evacuations are underway after a wildfire broke out in Ocean County on Tuesday.
The wildfire broke out at the Greenwood Forest Wildlife Management Area in Barnegat and has spread across at least 150 acres, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
Resources, including fire engines, a Forest Fire Service helicopter, and a contact air tanker capable of dropping 600 gallons of water, were deployed.
Evacuations are underway on Wells Mills Road from Bryant Road to the Garden State Parkway in Ocean Township.
North and southbound lanes of the Garden State Parkway have been closed in the area of Exit 69 in Waretown.
There is a forest fire and emergency maintenance on the Garden State Parkway southbound, south of Exit 80 - CR 530 in Beachwood. All lanes are closed to traffic due to this incident on the Garden State Parkway until further notice.
