Why The White Sox Could Walk Away With The Steal Of The Draft

After coming off one of the worst seasons in major league baseball history, the White Sox were never expected to compete in 2025. While the White Sox don’t have the wins to show for it at this point, it is likely that they will have a better record than last year, but that doesn’t say much.

Most of the attention will be on the farm system, as the hope is that some of the big names in the minor leagues will help the major league team compete in the near future, as the White Sox have six top-100 prospects on the MLB Pipeline list.

Now, the White Sox have a chance to add another top tier prospect to the farm system, as Joe Doyle gives an update out of the draft that will greatly benefit the White Sox.

According to Doyle, he has spoken with a scouting director and he says that there is absolutely no consensus in this upcoming draft, which is something they’ve never seen before.

This is fantastic news for the White Sox, as despite having one of the worst records in major league history, they only have the 10th pick. Now, with no top consensus, it could allow one of the best players in the draft to fall to the White Sox at 10.

With no consensus, it may allow the number one player on the White Sox draft board to fall to them at 10, which would typically not happen when you’re picking at 10. Hopefully this means a bat falls to them, as they are in desperate need of some top offensive talent in their lineup.

Chris Getz had a very solid first draft, as Hagen Smith has looked like he will be a frontline starter in the major leagues very soon. Additionally, his second round pick has been off to an amazing start to his professional career.

As of right now, MLB Pipeline ranks prep third basemen Ethan Holliday as their number one ranked prospect, while Texas A&M outfielder Jace LaViolette is second on their list. With the lack of consensus across the league, there is a chance one of them, or another top college bat could fall into the lap of the White Sox.

Getz will look to continue his luck in the 2025 draft, as there should be a very solid position player for him to select with the 10th pick. Especially now with no consensus on how the players stack up against each other, he could get someone that should have been taken significantly higher.
