Where to celebrate, volunteer on Earth Day in central Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) - Communities and organizations across central Ohio are hosting events and volunteer opportunities in celebration of Earth Day on April 22 and this weekend. Below is a list of events and celebrations near you.
Making Earth Day Bird Feeders
Alum Creek Nature Center at 2911 S. Old State Rd., April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon
- Celebrate Earth Day by making your own bird feeders from reused materials. Anyone interested can meet at the Nature Center anytime from 9 a.m. to noon.
Earth Day Upcycling
Sharon Woods Metro Park, April 22 from 2 to 7 p.m.
- Celebrate Earth Day by learning how upcycling. Those who are interested can make their own reusable shopping bag, play games and meet with a local artists who uses materials that are recycled.
Earth Day Extravaganza
Homestead Metro Park, April 22 from 3 to 5 p.m.
- Visit Homestead for an afternoon of kid and adult-friendly crafts, enjoy the sights of the outdoors and more. The program is geared for all ages. Anyone interested in attending can meet at the Lakeside Pavilion.
Earth Day Trot
Walnut Woods Metro Park, April 22 at 5:30 p.m.
- Visit Walnut Woods for a hike to celebrate Earth Day. Take a quick stroll through the Tall Pines area, hiking 2+miles. The event is free and dogs are also welcome to join.
Earth Day Celebration Weekend: Protect our Species
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, April 26-27
- Celebrate the Earth with several activities at the Columbus Zoo, including Conservation Activity Stations, Character Ambassador meet and greets, keeper talks and Party for the Planet sessions. Earth Celebration Weekend is included with Columbus Zoo admission.
Earth Day Columbus Celebration
Scioto Audubon Metro Park, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Enjoy the annual Earth Day Extravaganza with several special activities and events throughout the day. The event is free, zero-waste and open to the public. Some activities include a yoga class, entertainment, food trucks and more.
