Afghanistan-Kazakhstan trade sees 32% growth
Afghanistan and Kazakhstan have seen a 32% increase in trade.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Taliban announced a 32% increase in trade between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan since the return August 2021. Efforts are ongoing to increase the trade volume to three billion dollars per year. This announcement was made during the Kazakhstan-Afghanistan Business Forum in Kabul on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
Acting Minister of Industry and Trade, Nooruddin Azizi, emphasized that the ministry aims to continue strengthening commercial ties between the two countries. He expressed the intention to increase the trade volume significantly over the coming years, aiming to reach the ambitious target of three billion dollars annually.
Serik Zhomanqarin, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to supporting a sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan. He highlighted the growing bilateral relations between the two countries and Kazakhstan’s readiness to collaborate in areas such as transport, agriculture, mining, technology, healthcare, and logistics.
A delegation from Kazakhstan, consisting of both government officials and private sector representatives, arrived in Kabul to participate in the business forum. The delegation aims to explore investment opportunities and identify areas of mutual cooperation with Afghan counterparts.
The economic relationship between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan has largely focused on the importation of foodstuffs, oil, and industrial products from Kazakhstan to Afghanistan over the past two decades.
The economic forum and discussions could pave the way for an era of transformation in Afghanistan-Kazakhstan trade relations. If successful, the target of reaching three billion dollars in annual trade will be one of the most ambitious trade goals set by the both sides. Continued collaboration between the two nations could serve as a catalyst for regional economic integration and mutual prosperity.
