Cleveland County inmate facing new charges after alleged attack on detention officer
NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — A Cleveland County inmate is facing additional charges after allegedly assaulting a detention officer on Monday afternoon.
The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office says detention officer Lydia Saunders was attacked by inmate Donna Lair while conducting routine site checks at the Cleveland County Detention Center at around 2:12 p.m. on Monday.
Saunders was taken to OU Medical Center's Trauma Unit with a broken nose and several cuts and bruises. She has since been released.
Lair, who was said to have been out of her cell during scheduled recreation time, is currently serving time at the CCDC for three felony counts of assault and battery, one of which involving a medical provider.
As a result of the incident, Lair is now facing additional charges of aggravated assault and battery as well as assault with a dangerous weapon.
