Pakistan to identify and deport Afghans with Pakistani IDs
Pakistan will identify and deport Afghans with Pakistani IDs, expanding investigations into illegal documentation, with a deadline set for April 30.
The Pakistani government has decided to identify and deport Afghan nationals who have illegally obtained Pakistani national identification cards. To facilitate this process, authorities have requested that officials from 15 councils in Peshawar gather documents related to Afghan migrants.
According to official sources cited by the Express Tribune, the investigation into the issuance of Pakistani identification cards to Afghans has been expanded. The government is also identifying Pakistani citizens who have added Afghan migrants as family members in their documents.
Talal Chaudhry, the Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, warned that severe legal actions will be taken against Pakistanis who provide housing, employment, or other services to undocumented foreigners. He emphasized that individuals renting spaces or offering services to illegal foreigners will be held accountable under the law.
Sources have revealed that officials from various Peshawar councils, along with the relevant documents, have been called for questioning, and investigations into the identities of certain government employees have begun.
Pakistan’s government has set a final deadline of April 30 for all foreign nationals residing in the country without valid visas to leave. This measure particularly targets undocumented Afghans, who have been residing in Pakistan without proper documentation.
Since the start of April, approximately 84,869 Afghans have been deported from Pakistan, and in total, 907,391 Afghans have returned to their home country. This marks a significant increase in efforts by Pakistan to enforce its immigration policies.
Pakistan’s crackdown on undocumented Afghan migrants is gaining momentum. The government’s efforts to address the issue are expected to intensify as the April 30 deadline approaches. This move not only impacts the Afghan community but also places additional pressure on the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have been strained in recent years due to migration and security issues.
The outcome of these actions may have long-term consequences for Afghan migrants in Pakistan, potentially leading to further deportations and affecting the stability of the region.
