‘Awards Magnet’: Inside the ‘extraordinary’ success of ‘The Pitt’ with Noah Wyle and more
It's Pittfest here — but not like the one on the show. This week on Awards Magnet, we bring you two conversations with the stars and creatives of The Pitt and cohost Joyce Eng. Listen below. Spoilers abound.
In the first, Noah Wyle, who wrote two episodes in Season 1, and co-executive producers John Wells, who directed two episodes, and R. Scott Gemmill, the show's creator, discuss the "extraordinary" success of the Max medical drama. The real-time series, with each episode chronicling an hour in a 15-hour ER shift, has slowly and then very quickly developed a passionate audience since its January premiere. It now ranks in Max's top three most-watched series and just made its Nielsen top 10 debut for the week of March 17. The trio also discuss Season 2, which picks up 10 months later on the Fourth of July. For more, click here.

In the second, Fiona Dourif, who plays Dr. McKay, breaks down the Season 1 finale, which saw McKay, at Dr. Robby's (Wyle) behest, fix the situation with troubled teen David (Jackson Kelly). The actress also shares how she's a version of McKay, who found medicine later in life, and why she believes Wyle was behind getting her dad, Oscar nominee Brad Dourif, to guest-star as McKay's dad. The Pitt has surged up Gold Derby's Emmy odds the past few weeks. It's now in fourth place in Best Drama series, while Wyle is in second in Best Drama Actor off the heels of his performance in the 13th episode. And while none of the supporting cast has cracked the top 10 yet, they've been rising, with Patrick Ball the highest in 11th place in supporting actor and Katherine LaNasa in 13th in supporting actress.
