Sainsbury’s Tesco, Aldi and other major supermarkets provide update on opening hours over Easter

MAJOR supermarkets including Aldi and Tesco have provided an update on their opening hours over the Easter Bank Holiday.

Grocers always tend to close larger stores during major bank holidays, such as New Year’s Day, Christmas Day, and Easter.

Supermarkets were closed yesterday due to the Easter bank holiday

The day off is part of Government rules which state that shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

However, brands which have smaller express stores, such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s may have chosen to keep these stores open.

But with Easter Sunday now over, many might be planning a trip to their supermarket to stock up on essentials.

A handy trick to find out if a shop you are planning to visit is open is by visiting the “store locator” section of your chosen retailer’s website page.

Here’s a list of all the major supermarkets opening this Easter Monday.

ALDI

Aldi stores were closed yesterday to give staff members a break,

They have since reopened on Easter Monday, but will operate on reduced hours from 8am to 8pm.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting stores.aldi.co.uk/store-finder.

ASDA

Asda stores have reopened today with most operating between 8am and 10pm.

The majority of its larger stores were closed yesterday on Easter Sunday.

Its smaller Express stores will open at 7am and close at 10pm today.

LIDL

Branches in England and Wales were closed Easter Sunday but will reopen on Easter Monday.

Trading hours for Monday, April 21, should be from 8am to 8pm.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting lidl.co.uk/c/store-finder/s10023098.

Morrisons

Morrisons has previously confirmed that opening hours will vary across its stores in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Customers looking to check the hours for a specific branch are encouraged to use the supermarket’s online store locator for the most accurate information.

Morrisons stores were closed Easter Sunday, but will be open from 7am-8pm on Easter Monday.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting my.morrisons.com/storefinder.

Sainsbury’s

For Easter Monday, most of Sainsbury’s larger stores will open with reduced hours, from 8am to 8pm.

Meanwhile, local stores will once again operate their standard hours of 7am to 10pm.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting stores.sainsburys.co.uk.

Tesco

For Easter Monday, Tesco opening hours will vary by location, with many larger stores operating reduced hours and closing at 8pm.

Tesco Express stores, however, will open as normal.

You can find your local store’s trading hours by visiting tesco.com/store-locator.

How to save money on your supermarket shop

THERE are plenty of ways to save on your grocery shop.

You can look out for yellow or red stickers on products, which show when they’ve been reduced.

If the food is fresh, you’ll have to eat it quickly or freeze it for another time.

Making a list should also save you money, as you’ll be less likely to make any rash purchases when you get to the supermarket.

Going own brand can be one easy way to save hundreds of pounds a year on your food bills too.

This means ditching “finest” or “luxury” products and instead going for “own” or value” type of lines.

Plenty of supermarkets run wonky veg and fruit schemes where you can get cheap prices if they’re misshapen or imperfect.

For example, Lidl runs its Waste Not scheme, offering boxes of 5kg of fruit and vegetables for just £1.50.

If you’re on a low income and a parent, you may be able to get up to £442 a year in Healthy Start vouchers to use at the supermarket too.

Plus, many councils offer supermarket vouchers as part of the Household Support Fund.
