Man dies in exchange of gunfire with police in Reseda
RESEDA — A suspect whom police said shot at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter and officers was shot and killed by officers in Reseda on Sunday night.
According to the LAPD, the shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when an armed man shot at officers who confronted him in the 6400 block of Reseda Boulevard.
As officers arrived to the area of the call, they spotted the suspect run into an apartment complex on Victory Boulevard near the intersection with Reseda Boulevard, police said.
An officer in a helicopter overhead reported the man appeared to fire a gun at it, then ran to an alley behind the apartment complex, according to the police statement.
The gunfire exchange with officers occurred in that alley, where the suspect was shot and declared dead at the scene, the LAPD stated. No officers were injured.
A preliminary investigation revealed there were no signs the helicopter was struck by gunfire, according to the LAPD.
A handgun was recovered from the scene and booked as evidence, according to police.
