Man incompetent to stand trial in girlfriend's death
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A man accused of killing his girlfriend will undergo at least one year of treatment before possibly facing trial for the killing.
A court has ruled that Tyler Stiers, 23, was found incompetent to stand trial in the death of Kylene A. Young, 39, according to court documents.
Young’s body was found in a home on the 2000 block of Harrisburg Pike on Dec. 16, 2024, when officials conducted a well-being check. One day later, Stiers was arrested in Athens County and charged with murder.
In a ruling issued earlier this month, a Franklin County Common Pleas judge ordered Stiers to undergo one year of psychological treatment, at which time, he could be cleared to face the charges in Young’s death. Depending on how Stiers responds to treatment, the court may also extend Stiers’ time in treatment until he can understand “the nature and the objective of the proceedings against the defendant and of assisting in the defendant’s defense.”
