K-State's Bert wins first-ever Big 12 individual title, joins K-Nation one-on-one
MANHATTAN, KS. (KSNT) - K-State senior Sophie Bert has achieved something no other Wildcat women's golfer has done before.
Bert took home the program's first-ever individual conference championship title at the Big 12 Championship in Hockley, Texas. She finished the tournament's final round 5-under par 66 to take home the trophy. Bert joined K-Nation's Caroline Soro one-on-one to talk about her big day.
"I'm very excited about it, I had no idea until I finished, so it was awesome," Bert said. "I try not to look at the scoreboard or anything because I just want to stay focused."
Her teammate, Carla Bernat, who just won the Augusta National Women's Amateur, finished in a tie for second. Bert says it would've been great for the two to finish in a tie for first instead, but she's grateful for the win and grateful to have Bernat on her side.
"I learn a lot from her, which is amazing," Bert said of Bernat. "We were on the course and she helped us out with different shots."
The full interview with Bert aired in Sunday's episode of K-Nation and can be watched above. K-Nation airs every Sunday night following 27 News at 10, only on KSNT.
