Apple Creek Elementary School, where Bond attended, shared a letter to its families.
"Dear Sixth Grade Families:
It is with profound sadness that I share the heartbreaking news that one of our sixth-grade students, Rivers Bond, and his mother tragically passed away during the severe flooding last night. Our entire school community is grieving this devastating loss.
I wanted to let you know before students return to school, so you have the opportunity to share this news with your child in the way you feel is best. We understand that each child processes loss differently, and your presence and support will be especially meaningful as they begin to make sense of this tragedy.
When students return, our school counselors and support staff will be available throughout the day and in the coming weeks to provide care and a safe space for students to talk, ask questions, or simply be comforted. If you feel your child may need additional support at home, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we are here for you.
As we navigate this loss together, we ask that you hold River’s family in your thoughts and hearts. Please take extra time to hug your children a little tighter today. Life can be unbearably fragile, and now more than ever, we lean on the strength and compassion of our community.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Rachel McNear, Principal"
"In the meantime, we ask that you continue to keep the victims’ family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Together we are #moorestrong," Moore Police.
