Sports Briefs: San Marin baseball shuts down Branson

San Marin High baseball held host Branson to just five hits during Saturday morning’s 6-0 victory over the Bulls at College of Marin. Mustangs senior Tanner O’Keefe struck out five batters through six innings for the win as San Marin (11-7, 9-1) strengthened its claim to first place in the Marin County Athletic League.

San Marin junior Matthew Baldino doubled twice, and junior Hunter Uriarte singled, tripled and drove in a run. Junior Aidan Whitmore had two RBIs for San Marin.

Branson’s Charlie Osher, Cobe Benjamin, Leo Diaz, Mo Jacoby and Treyvor Mathews each had a base hit for the Bulls (6-9, 1-9).

San Marin holds a one-game lead over Tam, with the two teams scheduled to close out the regular season with a home-and-home set.

• A big sixth inning carried Tomales High to a 5-1 home win over Technology of Rohnert Park on Friday — the Braves’ first North Coast League II win this season. Sophomore Nate Ballou drove in two runs and scored another for the Braves (4-7, 1-5 NCL II, who put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. Senior Stran Stevens was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Tomales ace Erick Tamez struck out five batters through four innings, before handing the ball to junior Jorge Lopez, who held the Titans (2-7, 2-3) to one hit for the final three innings to get the win.

Boys volleyball

Senior Beckett Shewey racked up 31 kills and three aces, along with eight blocks as Redwood High earned a 3-1 victory over Livermore on the Giants’ home court. Redwood (17-3, 13-0 MCAL) won 25-22, 25-23, 23-25, 26-24 against the Cowboys (17-13, 3-7 EBAL).

Girls lacrosse

San Marin was putting all its eggs in the basket as the Mustangs rolled past Rancho Cotate, 19-7, on Saturday.

College softball

Dominican took another step toward qualifying for the PacWest Conference tournament following a 13-6 against Hawaii Pacific on senior day on Saturday.

The Penguins (30-21, 21-13 PacWest) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and four times in the eighth to pull away late.

Kate Tobola and Taylor Rodriguez both hit three-run homers. Rodriguez drove in a team-high five runs and pitched three innings of relief to earn her 17th win of the season against five losses.

Dominican remained a game ahead of Hawaii-Hilo (25-21, 19-14) for the final playoff spot. The Vulcans walked off with a 3-2 victory in the bottom of the seventh against Chaminade on Saturday. Dominican has two games left against Menlo (8-34, 7-21) while Hawaii Hilo plays Hawaii Pacific (17-34, 11-22) three times next week.

Prep softball

Georgiana Castro, Izzy Rykov, and Jacinda Wright had three hits apiece to lead Novato to a 15-2 win against Healdsburg on Friday night.
Wright tripled and drove in four runs for the Hornets (5-13). Castro had two doubles and drove in two runs, scoring four. Rvkov drove in three runs and scored three times.
