Fatal three vehicle crash claims life of an 8-year-old in Jennings
JENNINGS, La. (KLFY) -- A fatal three vehicle crash had taken place yesterday evening on La 26 bear Andrus Cove Cemetery Road, deputies said.
The crash claimed the life of Penelope Richard, 8, of Texas City, Texas, authorities said.
During the investigation, it was revealed that a Kia Sportage was traveling south of on LA 26 and allegedly slowed down to stop to turn left on a private drive, deputies said.
At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was slowing to stop behind the vehicle. Following the Corolla was a Toyota Tacoma. For reasons unknown, the Tacoma allegedly failed to slow down and struck the rear of the Corolla, causing it to exit the roadway. The Tacoma then continued forward and also struck the rear of the Sportage, deputies said.
The drivers of the three vehicles sustained minor injuries, while Richard, a rear seat passenger in the Corolla sustained major injuries and died, authorities said.
Deputies said although impairment is not suspected, standard toxicology samples were collected from all drivers and submitted for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
