Abused dog 'Lavender' reunites with Schenectady rescuers as recovery continues
SCHENCTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society (MHHS) facilitated a reunion this week between Lavender, a dog found abandoned and abused in Schenectady in March, and the responders who rescued her. Lavender met with members of the Schenectady Police Department, Schenectady Animal Control, and the MHHS Humane Law Enforcement team.
Lavender was found abandoned near Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street on March 29. She continues to receive veterinary care from MHHS for severe injuries and infections.
"Lavender is making progress every day under the expert care team at MHHS. Despite all she has endured, she continues to show resilience—and even joy," said MHHS President and CEO Ashley Jeffrey Bouck. "Watching her wag her tail and greet the officers who helped save her and bring her justice was a powerful moment for everyone involved. She represents so many animals who are suffering in silence. Lavender’s recovery is possible because people cared enough to act. But her care continues, and so does the need for support."
On April 4, 31-year-old Basean Brooks was arrested in connection to the dog's abandonment, but the search continues for the person responsible for hurting Lavender. Animal support organizations Partners in Animal Welfare, Animal Nation, and the New York State Humane Association have put forward a total of $7,000 in rewards for information that could lead to the suspect's arrest.
"We are grateful for the public’s support in this case and the opportunity to see her starting to heal, but this case is not over," said Schenectady Police Chief Eric Clifford. "If anyone has information about how Lavender was injured, we urge them to come forward. Every detail matters."
