Temps in 80s expected Friday ahead of evening storms, 'gloomy' Easter in Chicago area
Temperatures will be well above normal Friday as possibly severe storms move into the Chicago metro area Friday evening.
O'Hare Airport is expected to reach 83 degrees — over 20 degrees above normal, Kevin Doom, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said.
Overall, it'll be mostly cloudy with glimpses of sunshine.
"We're going to get a really big feed of warm air coming up from the south that's going to bring highs into the low 80s today," Doom said. "Most of the day is going to be dry, and then it looks like this afternoon into this evening is sort of when storms are going to start brewing."
Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 40 miles per hour and scattered rain will likely move across the area from 6 p.m. to midnight, but it's uncertain whether the rainfall will develop into severe storms.
"It's one of those tricky setups where storms do develop and there's a possibility they could be strong, but it's just unclear whether they're going to have the sort of forcing needed to actually get going," Doom said.
"It looks like we will have at least some scattered showers," Doom added.
Temperatures are expected to be in the low to mid 50s over the weekend with rain expected Sunday into Sunday evening.
"Sunday is looking a little gloomy for Easter," Doom said.
